Spade Burger, Greentown Ipoh

Spade Burger has been opened in mid August this year but I only had my first try in early October. I could still remember how ferocious our appetite was.... or rather how passionate we are when it comes to food, when yours truly was done with Bad Ape Yakitori (a new joint in Greentown also) and just casually hop over to Spade for a second round. The taste of the Baconizer was indeed truly memorable and had us salivating for more, despite having quite a scrumptious dinner an hour earlier next door.

With already 5 trips there, the Baconizer still remains as my all time favourite. Having the option of going for the beef or pork patties, I would prefer the former. As the name goes, this is indeed the best pick for bacon lovers, like yours truly. You get the best of both worlds in terms of caramelized bacon and streaky bacon and obviously the caramelized ones are damn addictive. Cheese lovers also could rejoice as you get to taste the contrasting texture of both the crispy Cheese Crisp and also the gooey melted cheddar in between. Honestly, without the patty, the combo of the bacon duo and cheese duo could already work wonders. Oh and I haven't come to the sauce part - bacon infused mayo! Aromatic bacon bits, need I say more? The ala carte burger is RM16.70 but it is packed with treasures which will appease the carnivorous cravings deep inside you, at least for me!

From another angle! Look at the glossy caramelized bacon resting on the cheese crisp! So hypnotic!

Spidey is another recommendation to those who love bacon. Streaky bacon are deep-fried and arranged in a way that they are like legs of a spider. Topped with some cheese and BBQ sauce, it was a different taste profile altogether in which I still prefer the caramelized bacons on the Baconizer compared to fried bacon strips. You could give this a try though as it is better to pay RM16+ for this burger than to order the fried bacon strips at RM6.50 for 4 pieces.

On one occasion, they were out of pork patties and I have to go for the Hot Chick (I would have went for the Chickanizer, but they said that even the Bacon infused mayo was sold out. Chickenizer was a fried chicken thigh instead of pork/beef patty, while everything sandwiched in between is still the same though). The Hot Chick has grilled chicken thigh instead fried ones while the bacon and cheese crisp are still there.

For limited time only, the Mr. Krab is just a normal pork burger with a slight twist and Asian touch. Salted egg yolk with crab meat is used to produce a golden slurry which is so rich in flavour. You can choose to pour it over into the burger or just dip the whole thing in before every bite. No cheese comes together with this burger but there was a layer of caramelized bacon for that extra "crunch" and enhancement to the overall taste.

As if the immortality granted by the layers of fat on the caramelized bacon is not enough, the additional liquid gold, or rather liquid cholesterol acts as the finishing blow to your next health screening report. I am salivating now as I am writing this post, as I find out this burger is no longer available. Damn, I miss this golden elixir of life!

Next, this is the Shinobi - just like its Japanese name, this burger has bonito flakes, smoked salmon slices, fried seaweed and wasabi infused mayo. A bite into this will makes you feel like you are actually dining in a nearby sushi chain restaurant. Imagine the wasabi and seaweed taste lingering in your mouth, coupled with the characteristic aroma of the bonito flakes. This is the most expensive burger here, at RM17.50 and I opted for the beef patty this time.

Last one up for review is the Beefception. Just like its name, you can only opt for the Beef patty for this one. Sauteed beef together with melted cheddar comes along together, though I suspect these were just minced beef instead of beef slices/chunks. The cheese crisp together with another dosage of cheese sauce still did not manage to bring a memorable touch for this one. Probably BACON is missing in this one as this is one of the pure BEEF themed burger. Similarly, they have a lot of creative others like Oh My Pork which comes with fried pork fillet and a compulsory pork patty

For RM5.90 extra, you get a serving of fries and bottomless refill of soft drinks. They have 2 Spade sauces - one of them is the spicy and slightly tangy one, which makes me feel that Tabasco is probably one of the ingredient to make that dipping sauce. At this point of writing, yours truly cant wait to return to Ipoh to have a bite of it this weekend. By the way, yours truly has relocated to Lumut for the weekdays but rest assured that all the back-log posts from the streams of farewell meals by colleagues and also some get-together bonding session with family members will be cleared as I have not much entertainment here at night. Provided the wifi at the hostel here is stable, expect more posts to come soon. Till then, happy eating and happy weekend :)
